Friday.
Good Morning World.
This blog has been given a new lease of life thanks to the fact that we are going into the studio on Monday to record our debut album.
We’ve spent the past four months working on the final touches to the record in between playing shows. Its been hard work and pretty gruelling. We ended up with 18 songs we really wanted on the album. However after much deliberation and a lot of demoing. We have settled on the final 12… for the time being.
Lets get a few things out of the way:
The album has a title, we’re not telling you yet though!
We don’t have a release date, but we will have a single out in the next few months at least, we can promise you that.
We have decided on the track listing and running order of the album. We’re not telling you that yet either though!
We are recording it with Bruce Rintoul. Bruce has been absolutely integral to Fatherson. He has moulded us from being three sixteen year olds playing very averagely, to the slightly more road-worn and experienced 20 years olds we all are now. We’ve worked with him for a long time and it was the most logical step to have him track the record, no one knows our band or our songs like he does plus he is one of the best at what he does at the moment. As for mixing and mastering, we have a few surprises up our sleeves with that which are pretty exciting.
We do have to remember this is the music industry. So all of this could change in the blink of an eye. We’ll keep you up to date with everything with blogs throughout the process from all of us.
We’re off to London tomorrow to play at The Old Blue Last for This is Fake DIY with Alarm Bells and Yo’True. It’s free so if you’re in the area, please head over!
Cheers,
Marc
The end of an era.
This weekend was a rather busy experience for the five (six, seven sometimes eight) of us. Here is how it went:
MONDAY.
Our fantastic van after driving us all over the country for the past four months went in for an MOT. Oh no…..
TUESDAY.
Concern grows for the fate of our beautiful van. A beautiful 8 seater Ford Transit Long Wheel Base beauty. Waiting on word back from Garage…
WEDNESDAY.
Van is alive! All good, couple of repairs and we’re fine for the weekend. MOT passed and another year of our lovely van…
THURSDAY.
8am rise, 6 hour rehearsal at our space in a farm outside Stewarton. Then shoot a music video for a song we recorded with Vukovi…. Get home at midnight, sleep.
FRIDAY.
Play the LIQUID ROOMS in Edinburgh. Having supported Idlewild and Feeder in this venue, we finally get to headline it. Place is packed out and the incredible crowd sing back every word. Possible music career highlight. Phil Jupitus (Of Never Mind The Buzzcocks etc) comes down. Everyone very excited. He loved the show. We go home very happy boys (and girl) after a McDonalds.
SATURDAY.
Play Be in Beltane in Wishaw with The Lafontaines and some other great bands. Sun is out and spirits are high. Meet our TM Bruce Rintoul’s Mum for the first time and she cooks us an incredible lunch: Prawns, Chicken, Nachos, Dips, Chilli, Rice, Beer, Homemade Wine. Great Day.
SUNDAY.
Another early rise to head to Old Mill Studios for a Danger is Everywhere session. Meet a lovely bunch of people and track a new tune and an old one.
BUT..
We pull up at some traffic lights in Glasgow, just about to pull off. Engine stops. A Lorry collects us and our broken down van, hopes devastated. We unload the van and leave it at a garage.
The rest is still too painful to speak of….
R.I.P Fathervan. 20/08/12
You will be sorely missed.
(anyone selling a van give us a shout haha)

It’s your birthday, her birthday, his birthday.
We’ve had a triple birthday run in Team Fatherson. With Elaine (Cello) and Chris (Guitar/keys) both turning 21 in the past week or so and Ross finally hitting the tender old age of 20. It got me thinking about how long we’ve actually been this band for. Despite three name changes, Greg, Ross and I have been in a band since we were fourteen. And this Friday at The Liquid Rooms in Edinburgh we will be playing Waves, a song that we’ve been playing for almost five years now… Just got me thinking about how difficult and rewarding music can be. And it is always a constant struggle. But it is really, really good.
Nostalgia aside, this Friday The Liquid Rooms. Ticket sales have been good, especially in a city with a reputation for a pretty sub-par music vibe. So we are pretty excited to play this show. We’ve got a good hour and fifteen minute set, so we are chucking in a bunch of new songs and all the ones everyone knows.
The weekend just passed we headed up to Thurso and Wick for a headline show on the Friday and then to play at Bfest. However, due to Greg having an exam (his last exam for a long while) we couldn’t leave Glasgow until 4pm. We then drove straight to Thurso (roughly 7 hours) which got us in at roughly 11pm for a 00.45 stage time. It was a weird show, really fun but not a vibe we’re used to. We then descended on Robi Lambie’s house, very kind of him to let us stay, and proceded to drink, a lot.
In a rather rough fashion we headed over to Wick (about 25 minute drive) to play the main stage at Bfest just before the Proclaimers… The best thing about Bfest is this glorious tent to the rear of the main stage. With the correct accreditation you gain access to completely unlimited food and drink. Burgers, Macaroni Cheese, Mince and Tatties, Bacon Rolls, Toasties, Sandwhiches, Tea, Coffee, Fanta, Cider, Beer, WKD etc. If you get the chance to play, say yes.
Aside from The Liquid Rooms on Friday, we are shooting a video for something a bit secret on Thursday. Then B in Beltane on Saturday and on Sunday a session for Danger is Everywhere. Busy Weekend that pretty much signals the end of our festival season which has been a belter.
Until next time.

Belladrum.
Just home from Belladrum. Currently exhausted but loads to do so need to stop procrastinating.
Belladrum Festival is heald up in Inverness every year and is the “Tartan Heart Festival” It is honestly possibly the best festival we have ever been to and the music is great.
We arrived on Friday morning after driving up to Inverness on the Thursday to stay at our good friend Stuart Nelson’s (He Slept on 57) flat. Up at eight in the morning we headed off to the Hothouse Stage at Bella. It was a lovely tent, probably a bit bigger than the T-Break tent they had this year. We managed to catch up with the guys (and girl) in Discopolis, Vukovi and Make Sparks as we were all playing one after another.
The stage was a bit out of the way from the main arena and pretty much the entire band had settled their mind on the fact that we probably wouldn’t play to many people as our stage time was 12.45. However as we poked our heads out to have a look at the place the tent was pretty rammed. A couple of behind the scenes technical problems (my pedal board being held together purely by luck, goodwill and tape) and we went on and played, possibly, our favourite show to date. So everyone that came down, thank you very much!
After playing we did a session at The Rockhoppper, which will be with everyone soon. We played a new song called “Lights” that we’ve been playing at shows for the past couple of months. Then we did a quick acoustic “Secret show/Session” in a secluded part of the festival outside of a church. Had a big singalong and then went to the caravan for some food before catching We are Scientists at the main stage.
The rest of the weekend is a bit blurry, but safe to say good fun had by all. On the way home we popped into Edinburgh to play a preview set at an industry event called Born to be Wide to promote our Edinburgh show at The Liquid Rooms on August 17th!
So thats our weekend, I am now going to try and stay awake for the rest of the day.

Loving Fatherson. Currently addicted to the song First Born.
my boys (Academy Strangers) are supporting Fatherson soon at the Edinburgh Festival. come and see then yall!
Well Belladrum was a success. Not only did i meet Fatherson, but also met Sean Smith of the Blackout! Was amazing. Fatherson were by far the best at Bella! The guys are sound as fuck! Can’t wait to see them again in October!

Can’t wait for Belladrum this year, the only band im going for are Fatherson! Cos they are amazing. But Belladrum said that their secret guests for this year are a band/artist who has played there before, i hope to fucking god its Twin Atlantic!
Amazing!, we are on at 12.45 on the Hothouse Stage Friday so get down Early!
Today is (was) a Monday.
So, I thought I’d use this properly as a Blog.
A small collection of activities and thoughts about today, Monday. The main vibe of today was about finally releasing a song that we’ve been sitting on for a while. It’s a thing for a charity set up by a friend and it’s really important to him for multiple reasons. “Charity” single make me slightly uncomfortable, not sure why. However it’s not really a charity single, just a good cover of a tune that we collaborated on with some good friends that hopefully people will enjoy and then take a moment to read up on the efforts of the charity: Runnway. Should be out late August!
Monday is also email day. I have a terrible habit of getting on top of emails and plans outwith office hours, generally meaning that i have to wait until today to get a response.
However, we finally got ahold of the posters for our Liquid Rooms and Garage headlines. So we stuck it up on Facebook and all the other social media places. Finally with some new Promos courtesy of the very talented Emily Wylde.
We are very excited for this show. We’ve played the Liquid Rooms twice before. Once was our first “proper” support slot with Feeder in 2010 when we were still Energy! It was the show that really started the ball rolling and we probably wouldn’t be at the stage we are without that show. That was also for The Edinburgh festival, this is going to be our Third year in a row playing the Edinburgh Festival (last time was supporting Panic! at the Disco at the HMV Picturehouse in 2011) and this time as a headline act which boggles the mind really. The other time was with Idlewild and it is pretty self explanatory as to why that was a special show.
We’ve always been dead lucky in Edinburgh as people always moan about it’s lack of a music scene. So thanks Edinburgh and buy some tickets for the Liquid Rooms….
The supports for this show are People, Places, Maps and Academy Strangers. The way the supports were chosen for the show is pretty weird. Normally a political choice or due to a favour or just that we really love a band (Pronto Mama, Midnight Lion etc). But this time we were recommended People, Places, Maps by a guy pretty important in the Scottish music scene. We have been aware of them and Greg and Ross are friends with one of the members so it seemed like a great shout. But academy Strangers were chosen by sending an email asking! Which, from my experience when we were starting out and emailing everyone I could, hardly ever happens. I listened to their tunes, liked their cited Influences and it happened. We are very excited to see the bands and play the shows and have and amazing night out after.
So if you’re in the area come along! Ticket links on our Facebook and Ticketmaster.
So thats my chat for the day over, apologies for any and all typos and spelling mistakes.
